Gestalt Work is hard work

My name is Jerold M Rothstein–Jerry–and I am a Gestalt Therapist who is now opening a practice for gestalt learning work. Aspects of gestalt learning include attention to one’s life narrative; building a toolkit of philosophical principles, phenomenological tools, attentive use of energy, and a lot more.

In the blog I want to touch on these kinds of work with the aim of building a “community of practice” through which contributions can be received, discussed and integrated into an ongoing process.

As a gestaltist I am iconoclastic. Fritz Perls, for whom I ran the Gestalt Institute of Canada, asked plaintively of his disciples, “How can I explain to you that gestalt is not rules?”

Each blog will have a statement, question, aphorism and the like to help focus comments. That one of Fritz’s is the first.

      Thanks Sara. Changed tagline too.
Questioning whether you can do e-mail via wordpress. GoDaddy offers an e-mail service but I wondwer if that would just complicate matters if I use the blog as the core site.

    Hey Jerry
this site and idea looks exciting but I don’t totally understand it. Can I subscribe to updates and things? Or just have to look back?
It is great to see your enthusiasm.
    hope you are well

Hi Jerry: great to “see” you again! I sure recognize the Jerry in the hat on the right…So will you be travelling around doing some Gestalt group work or are you trying to do some online or what? Would love to see you here in North Carolina, especially to do some work with those of us entering a new phase of life. I am about to retire and am excited about this next phase; at the same time I have some “issues” I would love get clarity on….Looking forward to hearing more!! love to you, Vicki

Jerry Meeting you again yesterday and spending those hours reminded me once again of some of the richness you have helped enhance in my life. And the parallel of talking to you about therapeutic connections surviving years later with someone having achieved significance in your life–when I met you about 40 years ago and you still have that kind of importance in my life. I feel so lucky that I met you and you are still in my life. Thank you for the inspiring hours of discussion. Kind of a living book 🙂 Bob
